Welcome to Mark's page
After a few combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Officer, I began to exhibit TBI and PTSD symptoms. Unfortunately, this put an end to my Naval career. I learned about Project Hero while receiving treatment at Walter Reed. I was able to see the impact the organization had on wounded warriors. Moved by their mission, I wanted to help them any way I could.
Like most, I began biking at a young age. When you’re a kid, riding a bike is an important milestone in your life. It’s the first small taste of freedom. My love for biking really took off when my twin brother got me a Lemond Nevada City for my 19th birthday. After that, I slowly got into racing and rode with some impressive groups. Eventually, the high energy paceline lost its appeal and I began exploring more relaxed rides. My buddy introduced me to the idea of multiday bike trips. Since that day, my love for biketouring has continued to grow. I have done multiday trips throughout California, Oregon, Japan, and a few on the east coast. Now I want to combine my love for biking with an organization that helps give back to the people who help others. Please follow me on my adventure down, across, and around this beautiful country to raise funds for an organization that helps our first responders get their lives back!
