My 2020 "Ride Inside Ride"- Honor Ride Fundraising Page
I am participating in Project Hero's "Ride Inside Ride" - Honor Ride on August 22 in support of injured veterans and first responders. We are coming together for a fun, virtual 30-mile ride to help provide recovery, rehabilitation and reintegration services to healing heroes across the country. There are thousands of veterans and first responders who deeply rely on Project Hero's life-changing programs that improve their mental and physical health and wellness. Please donate to my page and help us save lives by restoring hope and purpose for those who have served.
My first virtual ride with Project Hero on Rouvy App was on May 20, 2020. I started riding with Project Hero riders twice a week and have built up to everyday per week. After my 14 day trial period with Rouvy, I signed up for a yearly subscription of Rouvy! I forgot to mention, Project Hero riders are on a conference call so we can encourage one another.
On June 20, 2020 I signed up for Rouvy’s Hamburger #7 Challenge (6-20-20 to 7-26-20). Basically, Rouvy “challenge you to burn the equivalent of 20 hamburgers - that’s 14,400 KJ! Finish this fun Challenge, and enjoy the delicious taste of guilt-free victory!” Since signing up for this challenge, I have been riding twice a day with one of the rides with Project Hero riders. We are able to create a "friends list of Project Hero riders" and we have been competing / encouraging one another! So far, we have ridden in 14 countries! As of 7-16-20, I have burned 14251 KJ in 620.53 miles in a time of 41 h 43 min. I am currently ranked 33rd among the women competing in this challenge. I'm on scheduled to have burn 14,400 KJ by 7-17-20. However the challenge does NOT end until 7-26-20 @8:00pm. I want to be ranked in the female category less than 30th, so I have more kJ to burn!
While riding on the Landsberga to Kromsta course on 7-17-20, I reached my goal of burning a total of 14400 KJ for the Rouvy Hamburger Challenge since June 20, 2020. My fellow Project Hero riders celebrated with me at estimated mile marker on the course. Thanks to the professor's (Bruce) estimate. Also, Bruce designed a chart to let me know how many minutes I would need to ride for each ride based of my Avg Watts, in order for me to burn the required amount of KJ per ride. I would not have attempted the challenge if it was not for Bruce's chart! Thanks Bruce! I then designed a spreadsheet to estimate the day I would complete the challenge based on the required KJs burned per day.
Also, on 7-4-20, I rode my longest ride on Rouvy. I rode the “GFNY Cozumel” course at 48.61 miles. I rode it in 3:24:53 with elevation of 377 ft. I rode this by myself. I attempted it the day before with the Project hero riders but was exhausted and I stopped at 20.12 miles (1:17:42). I needed more recovery time from the previous day's ride.
1,591.8 miles and climbing … from 5-3-20 to 7-26-20 with Project Hero HUB Global Virtual Cycling plus extra rides when I have ridden 2 or more rides per day for about 25 days within the above dates.
While I still continue to deal with a multitude of medical and mental challenges, I'm focused on changing my lifestyle by riding my bike with the Rouvy App using my Wahoo KICKR. It's a blast!
ISAGENIX products, eating healthy and virtual cycling with Project Hero riders to help improve my health (physically and mentally) and eventually reach a weight of 150 lbs, which was my weight when I enlisted in the U.S. Army in May, 1994.
The ride is also to bring awareness of the 20 veterans that die each day due to suicides and also to reduce the Stigma of Mental Illness / Bring Awareness to Suicide Prevention.
Update: Another day of riding on 7-26-20, I have burned 22988 KJ in 1007.29 miles in a time of 66 h 28 min for Rouvy's Hamburger Challenge that began on 6-20-20 and ends on 7-26-20. I am currently ranked 12th out of 702 women competing in Rouvy's Hamburger challenge. I am currently ranked 288 out of 6340 men & women competing in Rouvy's Hamburger challenge. It is getting me ready for the "Ride Inside Ride"-Honor Ride on Aug 22, 2020!
